Revealing the use of deep fake technology against women on internet

The current era is called technology era but it is using more negatively than positive and one example of this kind is deep fake that can ruin anyone's life.

Deep fake photos or videos are those in which the viewers are saying or doing things that they have never done before and for this purpose, a lot of photo data is needed to create real looking footage or photo.

And now it has been discovered that the messaging app Telegram has active bots that create fake inappropriate images based on this technology at the request of users.

In fact, these bots are mostly target at women whose normal photos are taken from social media, which are turned into nude photos by DeepFake.

The revelation was made by a security company, Cincinnati, which has called it visual threat intelligence, especially regarding  to the spread of Deepfax.

The company's researchers discovered more than 100,000 images by July 2020 that were produced and shared on Telegram's public channels (meaning that number could be much higher as July is now 3 months old).

Most of Telegram's subscribers are from Russia or neighboring countries.

Cincinnati contacted Telegram to ask about  producing such content, but the company has not yet responded.

The software that produces the images is known as Deep Nude, which appeared on the Internet as a website in June last year, but was shut down after much media coverage, saying that people are using it maliciously.

However, the software is still in the background and Cincinnati says it can be discovered on open source torrent websites.

According to the company, these images can be used to blackmail, harass and extort money from women and it is not easy for the victims to deal with the situation.

"We have no evidence that the images created by the bots were used for this purpose, but we believe that this is happening, this technology is a serious threat to the dignity and safety of any individual," said Giorgio Paterni.
