D1.... The first electric car designed for participatory transport

Two big companies in
China have joined hands to design, develop, build and launch the world's first electric car designed for participatory transport services called the D1.

The D1 was developed in collaboration between Didi Chuxing, China's largest participatory transport company that defeated Uber in 2016, and BYD, a China's top leading electric car manufacturer.

The D1 will have a range of 418 km +/-, and the two companies have outlined some of the most interesting design touches, which make this vehicle particularly suitable for participatory, app-based transportation services.

There is a medium-sized screen on the dashboard, as well as two additional touch screens at the back of passenger headrests for access to navigation options and other information.

Another smaller screen behind the wheel displays the tools, and the car comes with sliding doors to prevent passengers from accidentally colliding with passengers or cyclists.

The driver's seat is very comfortable for long use, and there is extra legroom in the rear seat.

The D1 comes with a Level 2 driver assistance system that includes lane departure warning, automatic braking, and pedestrian collision warning.

There is also a driver control system to ensure that drivers keep their hands on the steering wheel and keep their focus on the road.

The vehicle also includes a steering wheel monitoring system with safety alerts and response functions, and a system for monitoring and analyzing audio and video via artificial intelligence that uses Didi Chuxing facial recognition and object technology.

The five-seater vehicle features a 136-hp (100 kW) electric motor and a lithium-ion battery from BYD plants.

The both companies began working together on the car design project two years ago.

Didi Chuxing is one of the world's largest taxi operators, claiming to offer 10 billion trips a year, while BYD is one of China's leading manufacturers of electric vehicles.

Didi Chuxing says it used data collected from 550 million registered passengers and 31 million drivers to design the D1, which today has about a million electric cars across its platform.

To ensure reliable and cost-effective supplies for its driver network, which today provides up to 60 million trips a day, the company builds a deeper environmental vehicle system for basic mobility by creating a broad alliance with manufacturers, energy providers and other industry actors.

Smart participatory mobility is the perfect solution for the future of transport, so that people can enjoy better travel experience through participatory mobility, with the continued development of self-driving and Artificial Intelligence technology.
