iOS 15 will not support the original iPhone 6s and iPhone SE

A new report indicates that Apple plans to drop its support for iPhone SE, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus with next year's release of iOS 15.

This comes after Apple has maintained compatibility with all these devices this year with iOS 14.

The report comes from Verifier, which has a mixed track record when it comes to Apple rumors, where the site has previously reported that the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 will not get updates after iOS 12.

e also reported that iOS 14 supports all the same iPhone devices as iOS 13.

This means that iOS 15 works on the following iPhones:

  • iPhone 2021
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation).
  • iPod touch (7th generation).

Apple introduced the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in September 2015, while the iPhone SE was introduced in March 2016, the devices were hugely popular, and received more than four years of software updates from Apple.

With the iPhone 12 mini and the second generation iPhone SE, Apple now sells two modern devices that match the iPhone 6s design, as the second generation of the iPhone SE is almost identical to the iPhone 6s in terms of design, but with the modern A13 processor inside.

The iPhone 12 mini is actually smaller, but it offers a larger screen, given its edge-to-edge design, as well as the A14 processor and improved camera system.

Apple is often praised for updating its software, especially for iOS and iPadOS.

Compared to Android, even with new three-year commitments from some manufacturers, Apple often introduces new iOS versions even for models over three years old.

Apple's decision on hardware support is usually back to the processor, with the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus and the first generation of the iPhone SE using the A9 processor.

It seems that iOS 15 may finally close the curtain on the five-year-old iPhone.
