Samsung TV owners can watch 1,000s of free movies at home

SAMSUNG TV owners have gained 1,000 new movies to watch from the comfort of their sofa, thanks to the launch of a new free-to-watch service, known as Filmzie.

If you own a Samsung Smart TV and find yourself at a loss with nothing to watch, you’re in luck. Streaming service Filmzie has debuted on the South Korean firm’s tellies, bringing more than 1,000 titles to watch free of charge. The Netflix-esque movie streaming option includes classic Hollywood blockbusters and new indie favorites.

Since Filmzie has partnered with Samsung to bring its service to Smart TV owners in the UK and worldwide, there are no extra applications to download, it should be ready and waiting for you automatically.

Unlike Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and others, Filmzie doesn’t charge viewers to tune-in. Instead, it relies on good old-fashioned advertising to pay the bills. That means you’ll be able to tune-in and stream movies without adding another subscription membership to your monthly bank statement.

Filmzie boasts an ever-growing list of movies, including the likes of Taika Waititi’s cult favorite What We Do in The Shadows, Korean director Park Chan Wook’s Lady Vengeance and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, and Deception, which features the Oscar-winning Geoffrey Rush. Voice From The Stone, a chiller starring Game Of Thrones alumni Emilia Clarke has also popped-up on the service as well as The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, which was comedy legend Robin Williams’ final role.

According to Filmzie, the service has ambitions to be much more than a simple film streaming service: it wants to become a social space for film fans too. Filmzie has built-in functionality to allow its viewers to “build communities for discovering, discussing, and reviewing movies”. Provided enough people flock to the service, it could soon become an invaluable tool to find new recommendations and hidden gems when searching for new movies to watch.

Of course, if you don’t own a Samsung Smart TV, there are still plenty of ways to get in on the fun. Filmzie is available on the App Store on iOS as well as Google Play Store and Samsung Galaxy Store. Not only that, but movies are free-to-watch in your web browser too, if you’re looking for a distraction while “working” from home. Filmzie is structured around curated themes in order to help optimise discoverability and introduce ‘new’ titles to curious audiences, the firm says.

You can also search for a title to find out whether it’s available to view for free.

Filmzie CEO Matej Boda told, “Movies are there to be watched, not hidden away behind paywalls by big corporations to line their own pockets. The film industry needs to support all the different, clever, entertaining, and passionately made movies out there. Films have the power to change opinions; to bewilder us, astonish us and bring joy to our lives, and we are democratizing films.

“We’re giving people access to great dramas, documentaries, comedies, art-house, and all the wonderful other genres between or that defy definition. We know that people understand that films cost money and producers, especially the small indies, deserve to be paid. Our AVoD model means viewers see fewer, targeted ads – in the knowledge that in return they get access to a world of fantastic films. A price worth paying.”

Here are some of the biggest titles currently available to stream for free on Filmzie, with more being added in the coming weeks and months:

What We Do in the Shadows

Lady Vengeance

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance

Odd Thomas

Deconstructing Harry

Mighty Aphrodite
