Aptera offers electric vehicle that does not need charging

Aptera has introduced its new solar-powered electric car, and the company claims that the car does not need charging for most drivers.

The company returned after it closed in 2011 after failing to secure $150 million in funding for its Three WheelEd Electric Vehicle aptera 2e approved by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Paul Wilbur, president and CEO at the time, said the company has contributed new technologies to building the future for efficient leadership.

Aptera expects its top-sized model, which includes a 100-kilowatt battery, to reach a range of 1,000 miles.

The vehicle looks closer to the shape of the aircraft without wings, allowing it to spend 100 watts of power per mile, and with a 100-kilowatt battery, you get 1,000 miles of range.

The new three-wheeled, two-wheeled vehicle has a roof solar array that can provide up to 45 miles of range per day.

Chris Anthony, co-founder of Aptera, said: Aptera's Built-in Never Charge solar array keeps your battery charged, as you're running the sun.

"The Never Charge program for each Aptera is designed to collect enough sunlight to travel more than 11,000 miles a year in most areas.

The front-wheel drive vehicle can go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, and the four-wheel drive model can travel from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

The battery capacity ranges from 25.0 kW — fit for about 250 miles of range — to 100 kW, and with fast charging over the current, the company says the charging rate can be up to 500 miles per hour.

The company opened the initial applications for model and Paradigm Plus for a refundable deposit of $100.

The price ranges from $25,900 to $46,000 — or more for private vehicles — and the company expects to deliver it in 2021.
