Google allows the editing of Office files directly in mail attachments

Google is making it easier to work with Microsoft Office files, now allowing users to edit Office files directly attached to Gemmell, just as with Google Docs and Google Sheets spreadsheets.

Formerly called G Suite, The Docs, Sheets Spreadsheets, Slides, Meet Video Conferencing Service, and Calendar Support supported compatibility with Word Files, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations, but documents had to be imported to Google Drive for modification.

The new workflow is now greatly simplified. You can now open and edit the Face file directly using Google Docs, by clicking on it, just as it does with the original Google Docs. But the new editing function doesn't convert Office files into Docs files, but rather maintains the original format of the file.

Gemmell will allow users to reply to the original email, include the updated file, and keep the Office file format, without having to require them to download the file first and then reattach it.

Google is also helping to ensure that The Office files work more smoothly in Google Docs, where the company has launched a new macro converter addition for Google Workspace, designed to help users and organizations import their excel macros to Sheets more easily.

Similarly, Google is adding a better direction for documents and image support in Google Docs, allowing horizontally and vertically oriented pages, along with images behind text and watermarks, but new image features won't be available until next year.
