Sony is entering the field of drones, where the company offered a brief preliminary look at its new aircraft, airpeak in CES 2021.
The new drone is said to be the smallest drone capable of carrying a Sony Alpha camera without a full-frame mirror, designed to create video content and professional photography.
According to Sony, Airpeak is capable of dynamic imaging and accurate and stable flight, despite the scarcity of details.
There are very few concrete details about the new drone system at the moment, although Sony said it was exploring the use of drones to photograph landscapes and city shots.
The model displayed in CES 2021 features a four-fan design, with two landing gear accessories that fall up during the flight.
The Airpeak includes a front camera and a distance sensor, and using these techniques with artificial intelligence can track the target and avoid obstacles.
Sony posted a video of its drone as it carried the Sony A7S III camera and kept up with the prototype driving experience of Sony vision S at the racetrack.
The vehicle uses at least 40 sensors inside and outside, and aims to apply the second level of self-driving standards of human non-interference.
Two 200 kW engines push the vehicle to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds.
Returning to the drone, it is supposed to be launched in the spring, and it is not yet clear its price, but it will not be cheap, because it targets professional users.
"Sony is launching a new business aimed at professional photography and video production in spring 2021, which means we need to get more information in March or April 2021," the company said in a short statement.
Sony refers to Airpeak as a new business and business, not a stand-alone product, so the drone displayed in the CES 2021 demo is likely to be the first of a new collection.
