Disinfect banknotes at home to avoid Coronavirus

Roman Leonov, an expert in the field of currency and paper documents, said that the emerging corona virus, can remain alive for a period of time on various materials and things, including banknotes.

During the outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic,Romanov advised to use contactless payment methods during purchase, including a plastic payment card and others, because this reduces the risk of transmitting infection by touching the stock.

But on the other hand, there are situations when you cannot avoid physical cash, so it must be sterilized during the trading process.

He stated that banknotes are subject to a kind of quarantine, upon their arrival at banks.

He noted that banks are sterilizing banknotes, and explaining how it can be done at home.

Romanov indicated that the Russian Central Bank, after collecting the banknotes, sterilizes them to some extent with a special solution, and then they are left stored for about 25 days in special warehouses, which is sufficient time for the virus to die.

At home, the paper can be sprayed with medical alcohol and left somewhere for few minutes, so that the viruses die, if they are present on them.

The expert said: "I do not see the benefit of ironing the paper currency, because this makes the paper fragile and susceptible to breakage, and it may crumble after a while. The paper can be sprayed with alcohol and left for 10 minutes until the alcohol dries. This ensures that there are no germs, bacteria or viruses on it.
