Coved-19 could threaten sperm.

Scientists at Novgorod University and St. Petersburg University of Pediatrics have come to the conclusion that the severe condition of Coved-19 can cause infertility for men.

It was found that sperm had completely disappeared in some male patients, although their condition was normal before they became ill. Is this a temporary or permanent phenomenon, and is it the result of inflammation or taking anti-infective drugs? That's what needs to be studied.

The researchers, in collaboration with colleagues from Kazakhstan, studied the results of sperm testing in 62 men who planned to participate in ivf. The result of the first examination in February-March was good.

The second examination, conducted in August-September, involved 32 volunteers (12 of whom had no symptoms of Covid-19, 17 with mild injuries and 3 severe injuries). They discovered antibodies to the emerging coronavirus, and that the amount and activity of their sperm decreased by one and a half times to twice, and in the three infected with the acute form of "Covid-19" disappeared completely.

According to the researchers, "these results indicate the development of poor fertility of men, even after the symptomatic case of Cofed-19. It is therefore advisable to continue studies and research in this direction."

Although the pandemic has been going on for about a year, studies on the effect of the emerging coronavirus on the male reproductive system and male infertility in particular are few, although doctors have discovered negative effects of the virus in sperm, said Dr. Maxim Kolesin, a masculinity specialist.

Professor Igor Kornev, medical director of the International Centre for Reproductive Medicine, said any disease accompanied by fever and poisoning can disrupt all functions of the body, including sperm production. In order for sperm to fully mature in the testicles, the temperature must be three degrees lower than normal body temperature. The infection is therefore likely to damage the tissues of the male sex glands - the testicles.
