LG launches a disinfection robot to contain Corona

LG Electronics has launched a disinfection robot called LG Cloi DisinfectBot to help contain the spread of the Coronavirus.

The company is scheduled to unveil the robot at the Korea Electronics Expo 2020, which will be held between December 9 and 12, 2020.

LG Cloi DisinfectBot comes with UV-C lamps on the right and left sides.

LG Electronics explained that the wavelength of UV-C emissions is between 100 and 280 nm and is effective in killing germs.

The company said: The National Research Institute (Korean Conformity Laboratories) has proven the effectiveness of the UV-C lamp within the robot in killing e. coli and Staphylococcus aureus by 99.9 percent within a radius of a meter.

The robot is 160 cm high and is equipped with self-driving technology so it can overcome obstacles, and LG Electronics added that it is designed to clear objects and areas that can be accessed by hand.

LG Electronics deploys LG Cloi DisinfectBot in places such as hotels, hospitals and schools, where there are many separate and independent spaces.

The company said robots are helping to ease the workload of health workers at a time when clearance is more important than ever due to the Corona pandemic.

The company is also developing an alternative version of spraying disinfectants instead of using an UV-C lamp.

"This release will be more suitable for places with more open areas, such as offices, restaurants and transportation stations," said LG Electronics.

Nog Kyu-chan, Managing Director of Robotics at LG Electronics, said: "The sterilization robot can be used at a time when hygiene management is as important as it is today.

"We continue to present the different concepts of sterilization robots operating in the best way depending on the nature and size of the space, and we try to ensure that our customers can enjoy a better life safely.

South Korea is experiencing a rise in new cases of MERS-CoV this month, and Seoul has begun imposing a new 9 p.m. curfew for restaurants and cafes.

Last month, LG Electronics began experiments on indoor robotics delivery.

LG Cloi ServeBot robots are supposed to deliver products from small stores run by local supermarket chain GS25 to anyone inside the company's Seoul headquarters called LG Science Park.
