S Pen support is coming to more Samsung phones

Samsung said that the support of its S Pen is coming to other devices in the future, according to a company statement.

This comes after Samsung revealed that its newest Galaxy S21 Ultra will be the first phone in the Galaxy S series to support its S Pen.

The S Pen has long been limited to Samsung's Galaxy smartphones, with its flagship Galaxy Note and some mid-range tablets, but this is no longer the case in 2021.

While the app is a little different, it raises the question of what this means for the future of the S Pen, as Samsung offers the electronic pen as a separate accessory to the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

The device doesn't have a place to store the pen internally like the Galaxy Note phones, and you need to purchase a separate case to attach it to.

It's not the same As The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and it doesn't offer the same functions, as there is no Air Actions and no Bluetooth control.

Tae Moon Roh, Head of Mobile Devices at Samsung, said in a statement: "We are committed to creating new mobile experiences that flow smoothly and continuously to make consumers' lives easier and better.

"We have made a bold decision to extend the e-pen experience to the Galaxy S21 Ultra, and we plan to expand the pen experience across additional device categories in the future.

The phrase "additional device categories" is ambiguous in itself, but since the e-pen is compatible with some Samsung smartphones and tablets, the next logical device category that can use the S Pen will be Samsung's folding devices.

This is not Samsung's first suggestion that S Pen support may reach other devices, Roh said last December: The company pays attention to the favorite aspects of people in the Galaxy Note experience and is excited to add some of its favorite features to other devices in our collection, although not specifically.

Roh also hinted that the S Pen is coming to the folding devices, and in a Q&A; A during the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Z Fold 2 show in August, Roh left the door wide open to the idea that the S Pen would make its way into the folding devices in the future.

"The S Pen has always been a favorite feature of the Galaxy Note, and we're happy to hear that people want it a lot, and they even want it in folding devices," Roh said.

"We certainly continue to listen to the opinions of our customers, so please keep an eye on what the future holds," he said later.
