Samsung turns its old phones into baby monitors

Samsung wants to turn its old phones into baby monitors with the new Galaxy Upcycling, which brings older Galaxy phones to give them new features.

Most Android phones don't last as long as they should, although this is slowly changing, but it doesn't help existing old devices.

In 2017, the company introduced galaxy Upcycling, which provides consumers with the ability to reuse the old Galaxy smartphone to serve new purposes.

Through the program, Samsung engineers have worked on ways to reuse the company's older smartphones for the new Internet of Things, in the hope of helping to reduce Samsung's contribution to e-waste around the world.

Samsung has now announced an update to its Galaxy Upcycling software called Galaxy Upcycling at Home.

The new software reimagines the life cycle of the old Galaxy phone and offers consumers options on how to reuse their devices to create a variety of appropriate IoT tools

Samsung says the optional software update will be available for these older devices that offer new features to allow them to be used for home purposes.

The company referred to three cases of use, such as the possibility of using phones as monitors for children, by placing the phone on a charger in the room with the infant, and a special program can detect a child's crying and send notifications to other devices.

Samsung Knox can also play a role in making these devices useful for home safety, and some pet care features have been thrilled, as the device can detect low light and turn on smart lighting in doors using the SmartThings app.

Samsung has not been involved in the details of the devices that are eligible for this or exactly how the software updates arrive.
