Saudi student gives 644 million deaf people the opportunity to drive vehicles around the world

A medical student at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia won the World Intellectual Property Organization Cup, the world's best inventor in 2020.

Saudi media reported on Saturday that student Reinad Hussain won the gold medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions and Innovations in Malaysia in 2019, as well as the gold medal at the Korea International Olympics for the best invention in the world in 2020.

In an interview with The Saudi News Channel, Reinad Hussein spoke about her latest invention, noting that some countries are preventing deaf people from driving, which prompted her to think about a solution to this problem.

"The solution is to find sound sensors that translate external sounds and send them to the vehicle's driver via a screen, through which the deaf can recognize the sounds around it."

"Because a lot of deaf people aren't literate, I've added color and images to the sensors, and that's the fastest way to alert," she said.

"This invention will allow some 644 million deaf people around the world to drive internationally, and will give them the ability to perceive sounds through a sense of sight," she said, adding that "this will reduce the risks to deaf people and others alike."
